When Should You Get Worried About Hair Loss?

 

Hair loss, also known as alopecia, in women is caused by many things that include stress, hormonal changes, medication and even using harsh styling tools. Pregnancy and post-natal hormonal changes can cause hair loss and hair thinning in women. This is because, while you are pregnant, oestrogen levels are quite high and so, hair is abundant and full. The hair will not be falling out at the normal 50 to 100 hairs per day. About three months after giving birth, you may see an increase in hair loss. This is caused by a drop in oestrogen levels and so, an increase in hair loss. The good news is that it is only a temporary condition.
3. Have You Started New Medication?
Medication can be a major cause of hair loss. Drugs that are prescribed for cholesterol control and hypertension are some of the most common cause of sudden extreme hair loss. Obviously, the side effects of drugs differ from one person to the next. However, if increased hair loss coincides with the time you started taking a new course of medication, then that may be the cause.
4. Have You Recently Permed, Relaxed or Coloured your Hair?
Sometime your hair may react negatively to chemical hair processing and colouring. This may be because it was not done properly, or that your hair is particularly sensitive to the chemicals.
